3. Birth control shot
The birth control shot comes in third on the list of most effective forms of contraception. It is also known as the depo shot or the depo-provera shot that one has to take once every three months. It is super convenient and is an ideal way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. It has a 94% effectiveness rate and contains the progestin hormone that works by preventing ovulation and increasing the mucus in the cervix. A single shot can cost anywhere between $0 to $150 based on the insurance coverage of the individual.

4. Birth control patch
The birth control patch is also an effective way to prevent pregnancies in individuals. With effectiveness of 91%, this transdermal contraceptive patch prevents pregnancies with hormones, such as estrogen and progestin. These hormones prevent ovulation. Currently, only one brand in the country provides birth control patches. When it comes to using the patch, it is important to remember to use it accurately and change it on a weekly basis. Making a mistake while refilling the prescription or forgetting to get a new patch can lead to pregnancies. Much like the modes of contraception on this list, birth control patches do not prevent STDs. Each patch can cost $150, but it requires a prescription.
